Foetal alcohol spectrum disorders, also called FASDs for short, cover a range of disorders caused by the exposure of a foetus (an unborn baby in the womb) to alcohol consumed by the mother when pregnant. The alcohol affects the development of the foetus and can cause a range of long-term physical, mental, behavioural and learning difficulties.
